How to Achieve Your Goals

By Helen Reimer

Setting goals is an easy task, but sticking with them and reaching them is another story. As a matter of fact most people only achieve a fraction of their goals.

Why is this?

The answer is quite simple; people set their goals, but they fail to implement a strategy that will help them to reach the goal. For example, if your goal is to make lots of money online, then you need a strategy to help you; you basically need to take your goal and break it into smaller goals such as, setting a goal to make on blog entry every day, or to write for one hour every day, and then spend x amount of time marketing your blog or website.

Once you have established a clear set of goals of how you will make money online, then you need to put your plan into action and start working on them everyday.

Many people are very excited to get started, but then sometimes (or perhaps in most cases) things seem to take longer than expected and so people give up. This is a huge No-No. Those who give up will never reach their goals; but those who continue onward will succeed.

If you fail in some area, or if one of the goals seems unreachable, don’t give up; keep trying, and if you can’t climb over the barrier, walk or crawl around it; eventually you will succeed.

Set aside some time each day just to brainstorm of new ideas that will go along with your master plan. Write them down so that you don’t forget, because chances are you might not get to them for a while.

Thinking of new ways to achieve your goal, or to set a similar goal is a great way to keep yourself motivated. Picturing the goals already achieved is also a great motivator. Write down why you want to succeed; what will happen if you do, and what will happen if you don’t. Then when you find yourself wanting to give up, simply go over your answers and think of how good it will feel when you finally do succeed.

You also need to surround yourself with like minded and positive people who will support you. Anyone who does not believe in you, either that you can achieve your goal, or is against what you are doing, will be nothing but a hindrance to your success. Stay away from them.

Hospitals to Obama Take a Number, Take a Seat

By McKinley Brewer

Medical and insurance industry pundits agree the transition to electronic medical records will result in substantial cost savings for patients. Huge medical groups and publicly-traded hospital corporations – the first health care groups to turn mountains of paperwork into racks of computer servers – talk about millions of dollars in annual paperless savings with their shareholders.

But some hospitals and doctors think the Obama administration is moving too fast in its efforts to promote the transition to electronic health records, according to the New England Journal of Medicine.

At issue is a proposed regulation that spells out what hospitals and health providers must do in order to receive incentive payments for “meaningful use” of electronic health records. Thanks to the economic stimulus legislation, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will pay up to $17 billion starting in 2011 to hospitals, doctors and other health providers that meet these standards.

To be clear about what amounts to an economic mandate, by 2015, Obama has authorized CMS to cut Medicare reimbursements to hospitals and providers that aren’t “meaningful users” of electronic medical records. What isn’t clear is what “meaningful users” may eventually mean. For now though, CMS just released a list of some 20 electronic medical records standards that providers must meet in order to qualify for the incentive payments.

After a few weeks of reflection, the American Hospital Association balked at the standards. The proposed rules are too stringent, the organization contents, and would penalize hospitals that already are using technology to reduce medication errors, track outcomes and collect basic patient health information without a mandate or incentive to do so.

“As proposed, the current regulations may actually make it more difficult for hospitals and doctors to adopt health information technology,” said Rick Pollack, the association’s executive vice president. “Unless significant changes are made and timelines re-examined, it is unlikely that the vast majority of hospitals can meet the proposed standards.”

While experts believe the expanded use of electronic records will improve the quality and efficiency of health care, and improve patient safety, hospital administrators and physicians know all too well that the process will amount to more than simply scanning pages and moving on. In a government-funded survey published last year by the New England Journal of Medicine, only about 17 percent of all doctors in the United States are currently using an electronic medical records system.

Some believe that once the medical record transition gets going, peer pressure will drive compliance.

“Electronic medical records will accelerate and facilitate health information technology adoption by more individual providers and organizations throughout the health care system,” said Dr. David Blumenthal, national coordinator for health information technology, in a recent interview with New York Times.

Since three-fourths of U.S. doctors work in small practices not aligned with deep pockets of hospital corporations or insurance companies, the conversion to electronic medical records amounts to a major cost that’s long deferred. Technology isn’t the problem. Money, time and training are the culprits.

“There’s no way small practices can effectively implement electronic health records on their own,” said Dr. Farzad Mostashari, assistant commissioner for the New York City health department. “This is not the iPhone.”

To most people, health insurance is a card with numbers you take to the doctor’s office and a little booklet of paper that lives in your filing cabinet, closet or dusty corner of your home. To McKinley, health insurance and the historical reforms that go along with the inequality of health care in America are topics of healthy discussion, worthy of further study and catalysts for education and action.

McKinley moved to South Florida after directing corporate communications and marketing strategy for several FORTUNE 500 companies and public relations agencies. A founder of Communicatia, Ink (an independent communications company he founded while working as a business reporter and newscaster in Nashville), McKinley is an emerging subject matter expert on health insurance and regulatory issues.

Slice Digital Designer Reviews

By Mike Flatow

When I first saw the Slice Digital Designer on TV I was mad because I new if I saw it on television and it was a gadget, then I had to get my hands on one to review. Luckily, the product has been out for awhile and lots of people already have them. I was fortunate to get a lesson from a friend who is way into scrap booking and she gives it the thumbs up.

In case you don’t know what the Slice Digital Cutter Machine is, it’s a portable tool which will cut, emboss and draw for your arts and crafts projects. I was very impressed with the variety of things you could create with the machine and really never knew how a lot of the crafts I see are made and I certainly didn’t expect to see so much out of this one little machine.

It’s by no means inexpensive. There is a trial offer for $14.95 but if you really want one of these things you’ll end up paying around $200 for the whole kit and kaboodle. It’s really something for crafters and not just a kid toy. However, if you buy tools which try to accomplish what the Slice Digital Designer does by itself, you’ll end up paying a lot more. So it’s a pretty good deal if it’s something your going to use.

One of the best things about this product is that like I said above, so many people have them. This means there are tons of on-line tutorials, videos and examples of how to use the slice digital cutter so you’re never on your own when trying to learn to use it. Further, some of the things made by this thing will blow your mind. It’s a lot of fun just to search on-line for craft ideas and instructions using the Slice. I doubt I will ever have the motivation to attempt some of this stuff but it is truly amazing.

I have to admit that I mainly watched the thing in action but when I did try a few things It was pretty simple. You basically grab the unit then choose, size and cut. We were actually using an old sheet of metallic wall paper to make some funky lettering and it cut very easily. There are circumstances where you would want to raise or lower the cutting blade to handle a more sturdy fabric or material, but I was just playing around.

The embossing feature was really fun. It was the first time for my friend also so we hunted for an instructional video on-line which walked us through the set. There’s really no need to use the instruction manual. It’s so much easier to watch, listen and imitate as a real person guides you. In fact we found tutorials on prepping the mat, changing the blades, cleaning the machine and really anything you would ever need to know about using this 3 in 1 device.

I doubt I will become a serious crafter anytime soon and this product doesn’t really fit my bill as an As Seen On TV thing even though I see the commercials late at night. There’s so campy sales pitch and to that I can tell, the results you see in the ads are real and done by real people.

My suggestion is to learn more about The Slice Digital Cutter and read some Slice Digital Designer Reviews
